→| addelaidesupreme: | hi ive watched maybe 10 episodes of star trek in total, could you explain why we dont draw green spock? and also wtf does that even mean? |
A lot of people draw Spock with green or greenish skin, often because Vulcans have green blood and they want to make him look more alien, but this is widely regarded as antisemitic as his actor (and Spock himself if you count beta canon) is Jewish and green skin is a common trope in antisemitic caricatures (think goblins or stereotypical halloween witches etc)
This has been an ongoing discussion among star trek fans for at least several years now
As a Jew, all of that, yes (although it’s been a discussion for a lot more than a few years)
When people try to use the blood reasoning to draw him green, I like to counter with this. You aren’t drawing humans bright red. And there are countless animal species with red blood who show no signs of pink or red in their skin either. He’s got a human-like olive skin tone, so calling it “accurate” to draw him green is just incorrect also. So there’s not even a lore reason for drawing Spock green; it’s just antisemitism.
It is antisemitic to draw ANY Vulcan green, however, not just Spock. Vulcans and Vulcan culture right down to the live long and prosper gesture are very much based on Jewish culture. Leonard Nimoy and Gene Roddenberry did that on purpose, and Leonard talked a lot about it.
Yeah all of that too ^

like i don’t think it’s a Serious Societal Issue and i do get that some types of women are annoying and deserving of mockery but i’m getting really sick of the genre of instagram comedy account that’s just a girl making fun of all the other kinds of girls she hates. especially since most of the time the majority of the girls you’re supposed to dislike are characterized as “not like other girls” girls but like at a certain point i feel like the creator is the one who’s trying to performatively separate herself from “other girls”
